Three in ten Canadians have suffered some form of financial or emotional hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
That’s the latest from polling company Narrative Research.
Company CEO Margaret Brigley says they asked 1200 Canadians about hardships caused by the virus in their households.
“Across the country, we saw 29% – so one-third in essence – of Canadians actually say they’re experiencing hardships financially,” she explained. “Here in Atlantic Canada it was closer to a quarter, so 24% versus that 29%.”
BC, Ontario, and Newfoundland and Labrador had the highest percentages of people suffering hardships.
Meantime, the poll also revealed that most Canadians believe the pandemic has brought the country closer together.
“Six in ten – 57% of all Canadians – believe that the be the case,” she noted. “They think that this experience has brought us together and sort of unified us as a country. 58% of Atlantic Canadians actually consider that to be the case.”
The poll crossed gender, age, education, and income lines, further reinforcing the sentiment.
