We have only scratched the surface in researching the use of marijuana as a way to alleviate pain. So says Dr. Bruno Battistini, President, CEO and Scientific Director at the New Brunswick Health Research Foundation.
That’s why Dr. Battistini sees lots of potential with the announcement at UNB of a cannabis health research chair, saying there’s the possibility of developing a blockbuster drug that could sell for a billion dollars a year.
A lot more research is needed to confirm all the stories we’ve heard about marijuana alleviating pain among those people suffering from cancer and arthritis. Another area of research is to confirm whether marijuana can calm those people suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or PTSD.
Dr. Battistini expects clinical trials with patients to begin in the province in the coming months.
