New Brunswick Criticised For Health Care Deal

The provincial government is coming under criticism from the Canadian Health Coalition for reaching a bilateral agreement with the federal government on health care funding.

The Coalition maintains New Brunswick would have been $659 million dollars better off had all the provinces stuck together and kept the current 6 per cent transfer for health until 2024 even though assuming that could happen is somewhat problematic.

The Coalition also points out there has been no talk about controlling the increasing cost of prescription drugs with Canadians paying the second highest prices among the countries belonging to the Organisation of Economic Co-Operation and Development.

It adds polling reveals more than three-quarters of Canadians want a national drug coverage plan. Nurses across the country argue Pharmacare would save the health care system lots of money.

The Atlantic critic for the federal Conservatives, former Fundy Royal M-P Rob Moore, is accusing the Trudeau Government of being arrogant in its approach to the provinces.
