New details have been released about a threat against the Dr. Everett Chalmers Regional Hospital in Fredericton.
Police said they responded to the hospital on Priestman Street shortly after 5:30 p.m. Monday “for a reported threat being made to the facility.”
The hospital’s executive director said someone called police and said that an explosive device had been placed in the facility.
“The hospital was put in a temporary Code Black in response to the threat while the police searched the facility,” Nicole Tupper said in an email.
Tupper said the Code Black was lifted at 8 p.m. Monday after investigators determined there was no threat.
While inpatient care was not impacted, Tupper said some non-urgent ER patients were asked to leave in order to minimize foot traffic.
“We take these matters extremely seriously and are supporting police in this ongoing investigation,” she said.
Police are still investigating to determine the origins of the threat.
