New Legislative Session Begins Tuesday

The first session of the legislature since September’s election begins Tuesday with the speech from the throne.

The MLA who will move the acceptance of the throne speech is giving us a preview of what we might expect.

“We have a plan to continue to build on our success,” said Saint Croix MLA Kathy Bockus in a news release. “In this session, we intend to make progress in several key priority areas.”

Bockus said that includes energizing the private sector, creating vibrant and sustainable communities, and ensuring residents have access to dependable health care.

Other focuses include providing children with a world-class education, developing an affordable and high-performing government, and focusing on sustaining and protecting the environment.

“This is a critical time for New Brunswick, and we have the chance to reinvent our province,” said Bockus. “Despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, our government’s vision for a better future for New Brunswick has not changed.”

Lieutenant-Governor Brenda Murphy is expected to deliver the throne speech beginning at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
