No 10-Digit Dialing Yet For N.B.

A second area code for New Brunswick has been put on hold.

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission had planned to add area code 428 on Nov. 21, but that decision has now been deferred.

They say a new projected forecast for numbers shows there is no need for the new area code yet.

When deciding whether a second area code is needed, the commission looks at factors including population and economic growth, as well as projected needs for additional telephone numbers.

This additional number would have required New Brunswickers to begin 10-digit dialing when making calls.
