New Brunswickers impacted by this week’s flooding should report damages to the province once it is safe for them to do so.
Geoffrey Downey, spokesperson with the New Brunswick Emergency Measures Organization, said you can do so by calling 1-888-298-8555 or online at www.snb.ca/emo.
“That begins the process of helping us understand the scope of the problem,” said Downey. “Also, if you register, you can also ask for a free health and safety inspection of your home or business.”
Downey said damages should also be reported to your insurance company right away.
When you are taking a look at the damage, he said there a few things you should keep in mind.
“Take pictures of your home and property documenting the damage,” said Downey. “If you’re fortunate enough that you can actually begin addressing the issues, keep any receipts for repairs and replacement purchases.”
NBEMO said no decisions have been made on a Disaster Financial Assistance program for this week’s flooding event.
Downey said that will not happen until the damage assessment is completed and a recommendation is sent to the provincial government.
“That’s why registering your damage is an important part of this process so we understand the scope of the problem,” he said.
If a program is approved and established, Downey said an official announcement will be made.
