The ferry that usually runs from Deer Island to Campobello Island is down for a retrofit and that has thrown a real monkey wrench into tourism for the area.
Anyone who wants to visit the summer home of U.S. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt has to go through Lubec, Maine and cross the bridge onto the island.
Minister of Energy and Resource Management Rick Doucet says there isn’t much the government can do about it.
“I think it’s a long ways away before there would be any opportunity for funding, it’s not on our radar screen at this time to fund it”, stated Doucet.
The minister says the government has enough ferries to worry about at this time and certainly doesn’t have any extra ferries it could put in place.
