North Atlantic Right Whale Death Toll Reaches At Least Nine

Two more dead North Atlantic right whales have washed ashore on the west coast of Newfoundland.

That brings the confirmed death toll up to nine this summer according to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans.

According to DFO at least one of the whales was not counted among the previous eight whale carcasses spotted in the Gulf of St. Lawrence in recent weeks.

DFO is working to confirm the cause of death for the two most recent right whales to turn up dead.
