Nova Scotia Conservative Candidate Resigns After Sexual Assault Allegations

The Dartmouth-Cole Harbour candidate for the federal Conservative Party has resigned amid reports of inappropriate sexual contact.

Troy Myers has stepped down after serious allegations of sexual assault were levelled against him by a woman he met at the Nova Scotia Library Association Conference in 2019.

The report comes from Lauren Skabar, who recently ran in the provincial election under the NDP banner.

Skabar’s account of the situation was detailed in a thread on Twitter last night. She says the event was hosted by South Shore Public Libraries, where Myers currently works as the Chief Librarian and CEO.

Skabar says Myers promised to create a position at the library for her after graduation.

She claims the assault happened when the conference wrapped up for the day and she left the main building, stopping to tie her shoe.

Myers has posted on Facebook to say the statements made on social media are not true.

He says his career has always been focused on promoting an environment of respect and equality.

“Finally, I express my profound appreciation to my family who have been with me throughout,” Myers writes in the Facebook post. “This has been a difficult time for them. I intend to rigorously defend my reputation and our family’s good name.”

He has reached out for legal advice.
