Nursing Home Fire Sends Three To Hospital

Three people were sent to hospital Sunday after a small fire at a Saint John nursing home.

Fire crews were called to Kennebec Manor on Woodward Avenue around 9:50 a.m. Sunday.

Acting platoon chief Mark Arrand said crews found an electrical problem in a baseboard heater in a resident’s room.

Arrand said nursing home staff had already put it out with a fire extinguisher and evacuated the residents from the wing as a precaution.

He said fans were brought in to clear the smoke before residents were allowed to return to the wing.

Arrand said two residents and one staff member were taken to the Saint John Regional Hospital as a precaution.

No damage was reported and the fire remains under investigation, he said.
