Officer Injured During Uptown Arrest: Police

Saint John police say an officer suffered minor injuries during an arrest on Wednesday evening.

Two officers in the Peters Street area saw a suspect wanted in an ongoing investigation, according to a news release.

The suspect was arrested for being in possession of a stolen vehicle, but police said he began to resist officers.

“During the altercation, one of the officers injured his ankle. Additional officers arrived on scene and the suspect was taken into custody,” said the news release.

According to police, the officer was taken to the hospital and later released.

The accused was also treated in the hospital for what police describe as “self-inflicted injuries.”

The 34-year-old man, who was also arrested for resisting arrest and escaping lawful custody, is due to appear in court on Thursday.
