Officer Recognized For Preventing Two People From Jumping Off Bridges

One Saint John police officer received two Gold commendations for his role in saving the lives of two people in separate suicide attempts between April and August.

Constable Chris Messer got the awards in a ceremony at the Saint John Board of Police Commission meeting.

In the first case Messer helped save a woman in distress on the Reversing Falls Bridge and in the other he helped save a man on the Harbour Bridge.

He says he recognized the woman from past experiences saying you get to know these people because you can deal with them regularly.

Messer says the officers have special training to help in these situations and he also gave credit to the other officers and agencies that assisted in both situations.

The man and the woman involved in each incident both survived.
