One City Officer Escapes Harm During High Speed Chase Involving A School Bus

It’s 20 minutes that several Saint John police officers will never forget.

A special needs yellow school bus without any kids on board was stolen from it’s driver’s home near Lorneville around 11am.

What followed was a high speed chase along Highways 1 and 7 where several officers tried to get a 19 year old man driving the bus to stop.

It came to rest in a gulley along Highway 177 near Grand Bay-Westfield after all the tires were blown out using stop sticks.

One police cruiser was completely destroyed as the bus rammed into it.

An officer standing nearby had to run from the scene as debris from his own cruiser was flying over his head.

Another officer went to the hospital to be checked out for minor injuries.

A 19 year old man is in custody facing several charges.
