Open Houses Being Held On City’s Drinking Water Project

Two open houses are being held by the city on the $216-million Safe Clean Drinking Water project which is in its first year of construction which is estimated to take three years.

Project manager Dean Price says this is a big proejct that goes right from Spruce Lake to Robertson Lake and includes 13 different components with the biggest being the water treatment plant and the storage resevoirs that will be on the site. The first thing that will be finished will be the west side well system – Price says a big thing people will notice this year and next year is work on the west side.

“We have new wells that we drilled so those new wells will have new pump-houses built and pipelines to connect the well-field to the water system on the west side, so by next summer the west side will have a new groundwater source that will be commissioned for the west side potable users.”

The reason for the project is to improve the quality of the water:

“We want to have better quality water that’s healthier and looks better and tastes better and the other part of the project that’s important is to upgrade infrastructure so there’s less water-main breaks, less boil water orders less disruption for the customers.” says Price.

You can attend a public information session on the water project at the Branch 69 Legion on Thursday from 4pm to 7pm.
