Opposition Conservatives On The Attack Over Budget

Regressive is how the Opposition Conservatives are characterising the provincial budget measures affecting seniors. Fredericton Grand Lake M-L-A Pam Lynch charges the life savings of seniors are being grabbed to help pay for the Premier’s patronage road paving programme.

Premier Brian Gallant says only those seniors who are having a tough time making ends meet won’t be touched.

Simonds Portland M-L-A Trevor Holder is focusing his criticism on elimination of the student tuition rebate, saying it was never mentioned during the provincial election campaign and he fails to see how driving away students will help the province. An online petition against the elimination of tyhe tuition rebate has gathered more than 12 thousand names.

Gallant defends the budget, saying it is based on the principles of fairness and everyone has to play his and her part to get New Brunswick out of the financial mess it is in.
