Opposition Leader Tries To Pin Premier Down

As he promised, Opposition leader Blaine Higgs hammered away at Premier Brian Gallant in the Legislature over inflated property tax assessments.

Higgs says the Premier wanted more government revenue and that’s why the new assessment technology was brought before it should have. As a result, civil servants had to invent renovations to get around the cap on tax increases.

Premier Gallant has not admitted to giving the order to fast track the technology but he says problems have plagued the property tax system long before this year and he vows to fix it once and for all.

As for those homeowners whose assessments went up too much, the Premier says they will get any overpayment back with interest.
