Today is Elder Abuse Awareness Day.
Census data in May shows New Brunswick is tied with Nova Scotia for having the highest percentage of people over the age of 65 at 19.9 per cent.
Senior Education Coordinator for the Financial and Consumer Services Commission Marissa Sollows says with the devastating accounts of seniors who are victims of seniors abuse, and the growing seniors population, we need to work together as a community to be more vigilant about protecting the elderly.
According to the federal government, the most common form of elder abuse in Canada is financial abuse.
