Orlando Woman Chooses To Stay, As Hurricane Irma Prepares To Strike

Hundreds of thousands of cars have packed the highways, as Florida residents head north, in an effort to flee from Hurricane Irma’s fury.

Annice Reaves lives in Orlando. She says her plan is to stay put and weather the storm as it passes through, “ I am very, very nervous, but at this point, there’s no way to get out. We have two properties here and it’s hard for us to just get up and leave. It would be harder to get back to check damages and so forth. I also have an elderly mother. At this point, it makes more sense not to try and evacuate, because of everyone coming from Miami, the Keys, basically down south, as they try to get out of the state. They are going to be impacted much more than we will.”

Reaves says they have lots of supplies, “We have several jugs of water, and we have frozen them as well. We have buckets of water for the animals. We have a generator. We have all of the necessities we need.”

If the storm gets too intense, Reaves says they’ll stay downstairs in their two storey home, “The back side of our house doesn’t have as many windows as the front, and we also have a huge walk in closet that all of us will fit in, if need be.”
