If you’re thinking about adopting a child then the results of a survey by the New Brunswick Adoption Foundation gives you a glimpse into the process.
The foundation says that for respondents who have already adopted a child, for 58-percent the process took three years or less 36-percent said that the process took over four years.
The system also faces a tough challenge when it comes to getting people to adopt teenagers.
The results reveal that only about 15-percent of respondents would consider adopting a child older than 12. There are over 400 kids in the permanent care of the province and over 60-percent are 12 or older.
When it comes to special needs, over 50 percent said that they would consider a child with behavioural problems, developmental delay, learning disabilities, or a history of physical, mental, emotional and sexual abuse.
