Overnight Fire Forces Evacuation

An apartment building in East Saint John had to be evacuated overnight because of a fire.

Just before 1 a.m on Monday, Saint John Fire crews responded to a structure fire at 11 Reading Crescent.

All tenants were evacuated and firefighters found heavy smoke in the basement.

Of the 15 tenants, only three were not able to return home and found somewhere else to stay.

Firefighters were on the scene for two hours.

There are no reports of any injuries and no word yet on the cause.
