Overwhelming Number Of Canadians Say They’re Religious

Canadians are not known for wearing their religion on their sleeves but if a poll done by the Angus Reid Institute in conjunction with the think tank Cardus is to be believed most of us are religious.

The poll reveals religion and spirituality play a role in the lives of around eight in 10 of us.

On the other side of the coin, only 19% of Canadians who were questioned say they reject religion altogether.

30 per cent of the participants who do subscribe to religious beliefs or being spiritual describe themselves as privately faithful.

The poll also reveals 67% of those people surveyed believe God or a higher power exists and 60% believe in life after death. 57% believe in heaven but only 41% think there is a hell.

Almost one-third of the religiously committed identify trhemselves as members of a visible minority.
