Parking ticket scam comes to Saint John

The City of Saint John has warned of a new scam involving parking tickets.

In a release, the city said it has received several calls regarding text messages people have received. The messages claim to be from the City of Saint John and request people pay an overdue parking ticket via a link.

The messages are not coming from the city, which does not notify the public of fines through texts or social media.

The city will only notify people of parking tickets by serving a ticket on the vehicle or by mailing a late notice of outstanding tickets to the registered owner of the vehicle.

If you receive one of these messages, the city said you should report it to your cellphone provider and delete it.

For questions or concerns please reach out to parking@saintjohn.ca or contact Customer Service (506) 658-4455, Monday to Friday (excluding holidays) between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.
