Pedestrian struck and killed in Moncton

Mounties say a 24-year-old man has died after being struck by a tractor trailer in Moncton.

Sgt. Thierry Malenfant said they received a report of a single-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian around 10:45 p.m. Thursday.

The incident happened on the Trans-Canada Highway on-ramp at Exit 450 (Magnetic Hill), he said.

Malenfant said the victim, who was from Bouctouche, died at the scene from his injuries.

The driver of the truck did not suffer any physical injuries, he said.

“The cause of the collision is still undetermined at this time,” said Malenfant.

The eastbound lanes of the highway were closed for several hours. They reopened before 8:30 a.m. Friday.
