Permanent Bridge Part of Route 114 Long Term Plan

Traffic has been flowing smoothly again along Route 114 since a modular two-lane bridge opened more than a week ago.

A culvert washout in Stoney Creek in March was the second such incident along the highway in the last few years.

Transportation Minister Bill Fraser says a permanent solution will eventually be needed.

“Part of the long term planning for the 114, which is a key tourism route, is the permanent design of either a new culvert or a new bridge. We also have to identify funding,” he notes.

The detour routes of Pine Glen Road and Dawson Road took quite a beating over a 10-week period with much heavier traffic including trucks.

Fraser says patching work on those roads will continue this summer.
