Phase 2 Of PlanSJ Nearly Complete

Phase 2 of the city’s MoveSJ project is nearing completion and we’ll begin to hear more details next month.

The city’s Michael Hugenholtz says the pedestrian strategy will be presented to council at the May 7 meeting.

Two weeks later, on May 22, council will hear presentations on truck routes, as well as transit and parking.

“Then they’ll be some public consultation between May 22 and June 11,” says Hugenhotlz.

Consultations will involve the public as well as groups like the trucking industry, and Hugenholtz says phase 2 could be adopted by council on July 9.

The plan is designed to help guide transportation infrastructure investments over the next 25 years.

Hugenholtz was asked if the presentation on truck routes will include issues being faced on Harding Street in the Simms Corner area.

“We anticipate that there will be discussion of that specific issue,” he says, “as well as a whole host of general issues that we struggle with in terms of trucking throughout the city.”

Harding Street residents have long complained about their street being used as a truck route and want to see the vehicles moved back to Ready Street.
