Philanthropic Women Donate $26K To Romero House

100 Women Who Care of Greater Saint John has made its latest donation to a local charity in the city.

Romero House will receive more than $26,000 from the group of generous women.

Every three months, the women hear presentations from three local charitable organizations and then vote on which one to donate to.

Each woman who attends the meeting writes a cheque for $100 to the winning charity.

Saint John SPCA Animal Rescue and the Sophie Recovery Centre also gave presentations Tuesday night.

This is the third win for Romero House. They have now received nearly $73,000 from 100 Women Who Care.

The woman also heard from the Outflow Men’s Shelter, who said they used the $27,300 they received in December to install a new steel wheelchair ramp and entry for the upper floor of their building at 162 Waterloo Street.

The ramp drawings, which were provided by Dillon Consulting free of charge, are currently with a local welding company and being put into production. They plan to break ground in the spring.

The local chapter of 100 Women Who Care has donated more than $882,000 to more than 30 charities since its inception in 2013.
