Planting Trees, Growing Pride: Let’s Keep Saint John Green

For the past 28 years, thousands of spruce and maple trees have been planted across Saint John—bringing life, beauty, and purpose to our city. These trees do far more than decorate our streets and parks. They give Saint John character, invite birds and wildlife back into our urban spaces, and help us reconnect with nature.

Trees play a vital role in creating healthier communities. They lower summer temperatures, block harsh winter winds, save soil and water, and clean the air we breathe. They also increase property values and make neighbourhoods more attractive to visitors and residents alike. In short, trees make cities better—and Saint John is no exception.

As we approach another planting season, we encourage everyone to take part. Whether it’s planting a tree in your yard, helping with a community project, or simply caring for the greenery around you, every effort counts. 🌲❤️

This work is part of a broader movement to make Saint John better. Alongside tree planting, volunteers have been busy with Marigolds and Murals, cleaning vacant properties, and painting homes throughout the city. These acts of care and creativity are transforming our neighbourhoods and lifting community spirit.

But there’s still more to do. Saint John faces challenges like high poverty rates, a shortage of post-secondary education opportunities, and homes in need of attention. By investing in our environment and our people, we can build a city that’s not only beautiful but also inclusive, healthy, and full of opportunity.

Let’s keep planting. Let’s keep painting. Let’s keep caring.

Love ❤️ Saint John.
