Playwright Submissions Wanted For Annual Competition

Calling all aspiring playwrights!

The NotaBle Acts Theatre company is holding its eighteenth annual competition.

Spokesperson Rowan Miller says you can submit a plays at various lengths, “Overall, we get a couple hundred submissions. Usually concentrated on the one act category, because everyone wants to see their play acted out on stage.”

Categories include 15-30 minute site-specific plays, 7-10 minute short plays and for 30-60 minute one-act plays.

They also offer categories for New Brunswick middle and high school students.

“The whole point of NotaBle Acts is to really give aspiring playwrights a chance to show off their work, as well as experienced playwrights. It is really open to all people across the board,” Miller says.

Winners will receive a cash prize and script mentoring from a professional playwright..Top submissions will also be featured as a part of the 2019 Notable Acts summer theatre festival in Fredericton. It will be held July 25th-August 4th.

“We really want to encourage a homegrown theatre community and we see giving young writers a voice is the best way to do it,” Miller says.

The deadline for the main contest is entries is April 23rd, 2019. The High and Middle school contest closes on May 10th.
