City fire crews responding to a Sunday night fire at 96 Victoria Street.
16 firefighters and one platoon chief responded to the blaze just before 10 p.m.
The fire was mostly confined to the basement of a vacant building currently under renovation.
The cause is suspicious and the Saint John police are investigating.
Fire crews were on scene for about 90 minutes.
