Police Investigate Vehicle-Bicycle Collision

A man has been taken to hospital after a collision between a vehicle and a bicycle in Saint John.

Staff Sgt. Jim Fleming said it happened at Douglas Avenue and Chesley Drive shortly before 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

Fleming said the man in his 40s suffered significant injuries but they are not believed to be life-threatening.

Meantime, a woman in her 80s was treated by paramedics after an apartment fire on the east side.

Fire crews were called to the 1700 block of Hickey Road around 9:30 p.m. Thursday.

Division chief Mike Carr said a pot left on the stove led to heavy smoke in the apartment and hallway area.

Carr said everyone was allowed to return home once the building was ventilated.
