Police make arrest after uptown Saint John assault

A 38-year-old man was arrested Tuesday evening in relation to an aggravated assault at a business in uptown Saint John.

Saint John police responded to an assault at 5:21 p.m. at a business on Union Street.

Officers found a 28-year-old female employee who had sustained injuries as a result.

Police said the woman was transported to hospital by ambulance. Her injuries have been reported as non-life-threatening.

The suspect was unknown to the victim.

The suspect left the store on foot prior to the police arriving.

Officers immediately began a search of the area, and quickly located and arrested the man.

The accused was to appear in Saint John provincial court Wednesday morning, charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and failure to attend relating to an outstanding arrest warrant.
