The Saint John Police Force will focus on the province’s “Slow Down, Move Over” law this week.
It is the latest in a series of traffic enforcement campaigns the police force is undertaking this year.
“The focus of the campaign will be to promote safety for all emergency and service personnel through education and enforcement,” police said in a news release.
In New Brunswick, drivers must slow down to one-half the posted speed limit whenever passing an emergency or service vehicle stopped on the road with its lights flashing, and move over away from the vehicle.
If there are two or more lanes of traffic, drivers must move into another lane, if it can be done safely.
Authorized service vehicles include tow trucks, a private or public utility corporation vehicle, or a road safety or maintenance vehicle.
The fine for not slowing down and moving over is $292.50 and three demerit points.
Police said the campaign will run from Monday through Thursday.
