Police seize imitation guns after Saint John weapons complaint

Saint John police have released new details following a police operation on the city’s east side last week.

Officers descended on a home in the area of Alma Street and Park Avenue around 11:15 a.m. Thursday.

Two men had allegedly entered the residence carrying what was described as a long rifle and a handgun.

“Based on the intelligence known to officers, there were concerns for officer and public safety,” police said in a news release on Monday.

Nearby residents were asked to shelter in place until tactical officers and negotiators could get the occupants of the residence out.

Four people were initially arrested for possession of weapons for a dangerous purpose. Three were later released without charges pending further investigation.

A 35-year-old man was held in custody on an unrelated outstanding arrest warrant for failing to attend court, assault causing bodily harm, and breaching probation.

Officers searched the home on Friday and found three imitation handguns, one imitation rifle, and .22 calibre ammunition.
