Saint John Police are warning the public about an ongoing Bitcoin scam.
Police have received reports that someone posing as the Canada Revenue Agency or at times Saint John Police is contacting people to make payments by purchasing Bitcoin.
If you receive a call that says a family member has been arrested and you are requested to purchase Bitcoin to pay their bail, hang up immediately and do not purchase any Bitcoin.
Police say they would never request the crypto-currency as a method of paying bail.
The CRA also says it would never suggest anyone use Bitcoin for payment of an income tax dispute.
