Police Urge Caution With Pellet Guns

Lots of recreational target shooters and even kids like to play around with airsoft guns and pellet guns–but while you might think they can’t do much harm, Sergeant Jay Henderson tells CHSJ News these toys can actually be dangerously close to an actual gun.

Sergeant Jay Henderson tells CHSJ News the classification for a firearm is a weapon that shoots a projectile at 500 feet or more per second.

Henderson says the manufacturers base the classification on an average of many shots, so some pellet guns could actually shoot projectiles more that 500 feet per second–therefore it’s important to treat these weapons with respect.
