City Police say they have received at least 4 or 5 reports in the last week of a telephone scam with another two yesterday.
Sergeant Chuck Breen says the scammer will call you, usually early in the morning, to say there has been an unauthorised transaction on your bank account and you have to go to Money Mart or Western Union to transfer money.
A meeting is arranged for later in the day but the scammer is a no show because the money has already been transferred and is gone from your possession.
Sergeant Breen says when someone tells you not to contact your bank, that should be a red flag that the call is bogus.
Police advise if you get a call like this, you should hang up, not even converse with the person on the other end and then call your bank branch.
