Poll Finds Many Canadians Overspent For Holidays

An RBC poll has found that many Canadians spent more than expected during the holiday season, despite the pandemic.

The RBC Post-Holiday Spending & Saving Insights Poll found Canadians spent an average of $735, that’s the highest amount since RBC began tracking a decade ago.

When the poll broke down spending by region, Atlantic Canadians spent the most at $906.

The poll also found Canadians spent more than intended. For Ontario, it was 29 per cent. Atlantic Canadians weren’t far behind at 27 per cent.

Canadians also identified things they would do differently to prepare for the next holiday season.

Those include setting aside savings on a regular basis, and spending less while resisting any temptations to spend more than they’ve saved.
