Poll Finds Some Continue To Dismiss Pandemic

Despite continued warnings, some people feel it’s okay to stop following the public health measures that are in place.

A poll by Leger and the Association For Canadian Studies finds 57% of Canadians have relaxed doing one or more of the measures like physical distancing or regular hand washing.

At the same time, 65% think another lockdown is imminent while 80% believe a second wave of COVID-19 is coming. Thirty-four per cent believe it’s already sweeping through their province.

Some people feel governments and public health officials are over-exaggerating the threat of COVID-19.

The poll found 23% of Canadians and 43% of Americans believe the threat and the need for public health measures like mask-wearing are overblown.

At the same time, 36 % of Canadians and 37 % of Americans say they’re not afraid of contracting the virus.
