Port Days Delegates To Talk Transportation Assets

Port Days continue in Saint John with panel discussions on Tuesday placing a focus on maximizing transportation assets.

Port Saint John CEO Jim Quinn says delegates will get an update on the state of the economy and hear how ports are doing around the world.

Kurt Nagle of the American Associations of Port Authorities will provide an update followed by Wendy Zatylny of the Association of Canadian Port Authorities.

A panel discussion on transportation assets moderated by Transportation Minister Bill Oliver also includes Stephen Lund of Opportunities New Brunswick.

Port Saint John CEO Jim Quinn says Bill Louis, Director of Sales for International Intermodal at CN, will speak about the importance of rail.

“If you think of the CN map of North America, it’s like a big ‘T’ and it goes from New Orleans right up to the centre of the United States and branches east and branches west. They are a connector of trade on a North American basis. It’s very, very important to move products from our ports to the hinterlands of Canada and the U.S. and the other way.” Quinn said.

At the lunch event featuring a keynote by Premier Blaine Higgs, Jim Irving will be given the Port Award of the Year.

Delegates attending Port Days have a lighter agenda on Monday featuring golf and a tour of Moosehead Breweries.

The event concludes on Tuesday night with a Seafood Fiesta at the Trade and Convention Centre.
