Portage Atlantic in Sussex is looking into how to treat symptoms and withdrawal of fentanyl.
Geordie Gould has been with the drug rehab centre for over 20 years and says they haven’t seen any cases of fentanyl use at the centre, but they are concerned and fearful.
Gould says the rehab centre is researching various information and will look into different programming needs if necessary.
The age group that is into serious drugs is getting younger while the drugs that are available are becoming more severe, which makes the consequences higher.
Gould says the centre is getting ready for the epidemic to make its way to our area, but as of right now its nowhere near as bad as BC and Alberta.
Stats show there were 23 opioid overdose-related deaths, 3 of which were fentanyl-related in New Brunswick last year.
