Centuries of Francophone communities in Canada have added to the strength and prosperity of our country according to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.
He released a statement today on the International Day of La Francophonie.
Trudeau says today we join Francophones around the world to celebrate the richness and diversity of French language and culture.
He added Canada’s long traditions of democracy, freedom and inclusivity are rooted and reflected in our two official languages.
Trudeau says official bilingualism is fundamental to our identity and has made us a society in which people from diverse cultures, origins and religions can feel at home.
He says celebrating the International Day of La Francophonie celebrates not only our culture and heritage, but our deep ties to the global Francophone community.
