Prosecution Wraps Up Case at Saint John Murder Trial

A videotaped statement Fred Cormier Junior gave to police was played for the jury at his second degree murder trial. Cormier is charged with second degree murder in the stabbing death last May of 23 year old Spencer Eldridge on Lancaster Street.

The confrontation stemmed from Cormier’s relationship with Eldridge’s former girl friend, Brittany.

Cormier told police he tried to avoid trouble but was threatened earlier that day and a hammer was swung at him. That night, a car pulled up outside his father’s house and Cormier says two men started banging on the front door and windows trying to get in.

Cormier said when he did open the door, he saw a black pipe and he swung a knife, admitting under police questioning that he may have stabbed him twice.

Cormier also said his 61 year old father swung a steel pipe in an attempt to chase the two away but was run over twice by the car as it was leaving and didn’t appear to be breathing.
