As of Thursday, there have been no new reported cases of measles in the greater Saint John area.
Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Jennifer Russell, however, says that does not mean they can declare an end to the outbreak.
“We’re just waiting to see if any more cases show up in the system in the sense that we have to wait about 18 days from the last diagnosed case, have two incubation periods or 36 days before we can declare the outbreak is over,” stated Dr. Russell.
The province is in no danger of not having enough vaccine after 20,000 doses arrived on Monday according to Dr. Russell.
“This year we have distributed 13,500 doses since April 29th, some people had been ordering the publicly funded vaccine and we were holding on to those orders until we had a replenishment of our supply.”
There are currently 12 confirmed cases of measles in the greater Saint John area.
