Province Says It Plans Co-Ordinated Response To Refugees From Syria

The provincial government says it has formed a working group and developed a framework for the anticipated influx of Syrian refugees.

The federal government wants to bring 25,000 Syrian refugees to Canada by the end of the year.

Refugee identification and admission will be a federal responsibility. The provincial government says its priority will be to integrate the refugees so they don’t move on to other provinces.

The provincial government is also working with immigrant settlement agencies, sponsorship agreement holders, faith-based organizations and other groups to ensure there will be a co-ordinated response.
