Tuesday was not only New Year’s Day, but also the official start of ice fishing season in New Brunswick.
Designated inland, tidal and international waters are open for ice fishing until March 31.
The province has a few reminders for those wanting to take part.
Ice fishing licences are required for designated inland and international waters.
They can be bought online, at authorized vendors or at Service New Brunswick.
The cost is $23 for residents and $26.45 for non-residents.
Owners of ice fishing shelters most post their name and address clearly on the outside.
They must also mount shelters on skids or runners for easy removal and dispose properly of all waste on land.
If the weather becomes mild, you need to be vigilant to avoid having your shelter become an environmental hazard.
Shelters must be removed by April 2 or before the spring thaw, whichever comes first.
