Province’s Unemployment Rate Falls In May

New Brunswick saw its unemployment rate fall in May, according to Statistics Canada.

The latest labour force survey shows employment grew by 3,000 as full-time gains offset declines in part-time work.

It pushed the unemployment rate down to 7.2 per cent from eight per cent in April.

The jobless rate in Saint John dipped slightly to 5.8 per cent while it remained steady at 5.9 per cent in Moncton.

The national jobless rate fell to 5.4 per cent in May — the lowest level in 43 years.

Canada’s employment numbers held steady but the number of people looking for work fell sharply.
