Provincial Government Releases Report Aimed At Reducing Poverty

The provincial government has released a report on its plans to reduce poverty in New Brunswick.

Premier Brian Gallant says the province will invest more in education, healthcare and other things that will help grow the economy, but we need plans and strategies to ensure those investments go as far as possible.

Gallant says they’ve been listening to New Brunswickers during the entire process.

He says the family plan also focuses on improving the labour market, health and well-being of New Brunswickers and will also make programs and services available in hopes of improving the quality of life for all.

The report will also aim to improve access to primary and acute care, supporting those with addictions and mental health challenges, provide more support for seniors and those living with disabilities and will also hope to advance women’s equality.

Gallant says the family plan report shows that poverty remains the most important social issue that has an impact on the emotional, social and economic health of New Brunswickers.

He says the best way to end the cycle of poverty is to provide people with strong educational and training opportunities.
