Provincial Gov’t Making It Easier For Children To Maintain Relationships With Grandparents

The provincial government is making it easier for children to maintain relationships with grandparents and other family members.

Proposed amendments to the Family Services Act emphasize continuing healthy relationships with grandparents or other family members are in the best interests of the child.

The changes would affect decisions by the courts when considering orders for access.

That means the willingness of the parent or guardian to give access to grandparents and other immediate family members must be considered in each case.

Child and Youth Advocate Norman Bosse says ensuring children can remain in their family environment is best for their wellbeing.
