Some Patrick’s day facts from this mornings’ “Things ya didn’t know ya didn’t know”;
First off, “Good Luck Charms” from around the world, obviously the 4-laef clover, but in some countries, Its the rabbit’s foot. Some cultures believed that rabbits were really shape-shifting witches, so a rabbit’s foot actually equaled a dead witch’s foot, hence good luck (Just not for the rabbit!)
The colour Red: in China, legend talks of a demon that ate children and livestock during the Lunar New Year. There were 2 things the beast hated…. Loud noises and the colour, red (I guess the beast devoured kids because of the loud noises?)
and finally, interesting to note that, until the 1970s in Ireland, St. Patrick’s Day was only a religious occasion and therefore a “Dry-holiday.” Apparently, the only alcohol available in Ireland on St. Patrick’s day was at the national dog show (Which as you might guess, was always well attended!)
